From Wikipedia ‘in the news’: “It is agreed that the Taliban will release the remaining South Korean hostages in return for South Korea withdrawing its 200 non-combat troops within the year and suspending missionary work in Afghanistan.”
So the Taliban takes a bunch of Christian South-Koreans as hostages, then uses them to bargain a deal with South Korea which dictates that all of 200 non-combat troops will be withdrawn and all missionary work will be suspended by the government.
I have a feeling that these missionaries would rather their government not have agreed to the deal… and I think it’s really sad that any government would try to control where missionaries can and can’t go.
